Volunteer Positions

The main differences between internships and volunteer work are as follows:

- The cost of interning is slightly higher.
- Interns are eligible for higher education credit, volunteers usually are not.
- Most employers and universities prefer those individuals with internship experience over those with volunteer experience.
- The minimum time commitment for volunteers is 6 weeks (depending on the organization).
Other than these differences, available positions are always the same whether you have intern or volunteer status (with the exception of work with the Pedrera Project). Preference is given to interns over volunteers when they apply for the same position.
