The French Association (asociación francesa) “Guatemala 96” has supported the La Pedrera project since 1998.  During the first few years, the association numbered 35 members, and sent money thanks to the collaboration with various French acquaintances.  After some years, many members of the association were able to visit the project and meet the children and Teresa de León, the project director.  This built a trusting and serious relationship regarding the good use of the donated funds.  From a donation of 500 Euros in 1998, the aid has now grown to a yearly donation of 2,400 Euros and sponsors 12 children in Proyecto La Pedrera.  The rest of the economic aid comes from fundraising activities of the association in high schools and through their publicity.  Now the association is also involved in other Guatemalan projects, such as Fair Trade (solidarity tourism, coffee, honey, handicrafts, etc.) and environmental protection (helping with the turtle sanctuary in Monterrico).
