Spanish
Immersion Program For Teachers
This travel program for teachers, principals, social workers, focuses on three different components to give teachers a complete experience: education, linguistics, and culture. Teachers will participate in Spanish immersion, be introduced to the Latin American culture and begin to understand how the school system works in Guatemala.
One of the main components of the program is helping
teachers from Minnesota to master basic Spanish in a short time.
With our full immersion Spanish program that includes homestay with a Guatemalan family, the teachers from Minnesota might learn
in three weeks of Spanish immersion what is typically taught in
any college in the USA in one year. With a ratio of 3:1, teachers
will get plenty of practice with an experienced and motivated
Spanish teacher.
Daily social and cultural activities, give the teachers a unique opportunity to experience first hand the culture of Latin America. Our activities will introduce teachers to different
aspects of a society in change such as the Mayan civilization,
modern life, the current social and political situation of the
country, geography, people, etc. Aside from this educational focus,
teachers will have fun, recreational excursions on the weekends.
Part of our daily activities focuses on the school system
in Guatemala. The purpose is to give Minnesota teachers the
opportunity to exchange ideas by visiting schools, meeting colleagues
and school administrators. This exchange will help teachers who
work with Hispanic students to better understand the Hispanic
students in the Minnesota schools.
Format: 3 students per teacher / 3 students per
family
